CII, an industry body, said on Thursday that it has collaborated with ITC Hotels to provide vocational education training in the hotel industry via the Switzerland-based hotel school EHL.
The Swiss diploma programme will be offered to approximately 240 students in phase one in ITC Hotels in four different regions: ITC Maurya in New Delhi, ITC Maratha in Mumbai, ITC Sonar in Kolkata, and ITC Grand Chola in Chennai. Phase two will see the training programme expanded to many more ITC Hotels establishments across the country.
"Aimed at enhancing the skill set of enthusiastic hospitality students," the chamber said, "this collaboration will enable aspiring candidates to receive the best of both on-the-job training at ITC Hotels across the country, in every region, as well as an in-depth understanding of hotel operations by subject matter experts."
The COVID-19 has had a significant influence on the Indian hotel sector, which lost Rs 1.3 lakh crore in income in FY21, and it is expected that to satisfy the pent-up travel demand, the industry would require a large number of highly skilled workers.
It stated that "creating a talent reservoir will offer the sector with access to a more comprehensive and adaptable skilled force."
According to Nakul Anand, Executive Director of ITC Ltd, this knowledge exchange initiative would prepare a unique talent pool for the business, transcending geographical and classroom barriers.
