According to an official statement, the Ministry of Tourism has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with travel portal Yatra to strengthen the country's hospitality and tourism industry. Signed on 2nd July 2021, the primary objective of the MoU is to provide extensive visibility to accommodation units that have self-certified on SAATHI (System for Assessment, Awareness, and Training for the Hospitality Industry) on the OTA platform.
“Both parties agree to encourage units to register on NIDHI and thus on SAATHI, as well as encourage the local tourism industry with appropriate safeguards to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” according to the ministry.
“The goal is also to collect more data on lodging units in order to gain actionable insights and design evidence-based and targeted policy measures to promote safe, honourable, and sustainable tourism,” it added.
Through the MoU, the Ministry of Tourism and Yatra will work together to encourage and promote strategic and technical cooperation in the Indian hospitality and tourism sector for the benefit of all stakeholders in the identified areas, according to the statement.
“It is expected that more OTAs will come forward in the future to sign such MoUs in order to strengthen the hospitality and tourism industry in India,” it said.
